HOUSE Rules

Catelowna is not a regular café. It is the home of our kitties and you are the guest.  They are living, breathing, feeling animals and their well-being is our top priority so they are as happy as can be while with us.

To protect yourselves and them we have rules that patrons are expected to follow to keep every human and every feline safe and happy:

Tips for your visit

Cats are calm creatures that spend a lot of their day sleeping so be prepared to have a relaxing time. Let the cats do their thing and if they choose to come to you, engage with you or even jump on your lap, it’s their choice as it’s their home, so enjoy their time….but this may not happen on your visit. We hope you can just appreciate the calming environment and “cat zen” vibe.

If the cats ignore you or you feel the drinks are expensive or more food should be available, please remember you are supporting a good cause. Catelowna is all about finding cats homes and we seek to do that in the most sustainable way possible.

To be respectful of the cats it’s handy to learn the signs they show when they want you to ease back, signaled by their tails, ears, meows or general posture. We provide you with a How to Chat to a Cat handout for reference on how to read a cat’s body language.

You may have cats at home, or had them all your life, and feel some of our rules may not apply to you as you know how to handle cats - and we are sure you do - but our cats do not have the same bond of trust you have established with your cat. As you are an expert on what your cat likes, we have a dedicated cat-carer team member looking after the cats and you while on shift who is an expert on what our cats like. If our team member asks you to change the way you are handling our cats, please respect their judgement

Catelowna has a zero tolerance to anyone who might be causing distress to our kitties and their staff. We reserve the right to ask anyone to leave if we feel these house rules are not being followed, without expectation of a refund
